Yep was around for the 80's crash, and another crash is coming very soon if these companies don't do something to turn it around... we are right back to crappy games, and junk that doesn't work right.

Game studios do not survive under Microsoft. Microsoft is more concerned about profitability and getting rid of competition, than making good games. The only reason Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard was to reduce the amount of studios developing for the Sony Playstation, not make better games for the Xbox, but make sure less games gets released for the Playstation. Unfortunately, game studios have gone from being in the hands of developers, to being in the hands of money grubbing greedy shareholders, which is why the majority of AAA titles these days are incredibly bad. You can have as many programmers as money can buy, but if you want money and they want a great game, obviously interests will differ and in the end those in charge will choose money.

If you are buying unfinished games, you are part of the problem. The only thing C-level execs understand is money. Don't give them your money until they give you the game you want.

Blizzard today is only by name. The Blizzard people love is practically dead. I stopped buying their products since Starcraft 2.

Fantastic video. There are disasters but they come with silver linings and although the fire of blizzard is gone, it shot off sparks that may fizzle or turn into wildfires. It's exciting to see what these offshoot sparks can produce given the funding.

Riot team still have love and dedication up to this day. Unlike the higher ups in Blizzards were they only care about money instead of their game.

Every game production nowadays is like that now....think of how every game is on beta and pre-alpha. That's why every game has no quality and have bug fix continuously to trying to make money, not quality ensure.

There’s a mod for Watch Dogs that restores most things that were cut from the game and there’s a faction redux mod too that messes with the police in the game. Modding is good if done right or what is right in corporate eyes.

I'll give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt and assume that all these people who left stuck around under the new senior management for a while. Since around the merger with Activision, Blizzard games had always been pretty formulaic.

There's another angle to this. In Blizzard's youth they made fairly nerdy games, such as StarCraft 1, WarCraft 1+2 - stuff that appeals to the classic video game crowd. Then came the age of WoW, where they targeted an entirely different demographic: For the first time, women and people who normally don't play video games were addicted in large numbers, all paying a subscription fee. In this light, the modern Blizzard with its microtransactions and appeal to the lowest common denominator is merely the natural progression of this company's trajectory, a trajectory they were already on when all the mentioned talent was still on board.

Can well please give a moment of respect to the rare companies out there like CD Projekt Red, who exist and operate with an entirely different ultimate objective... Which is US, the Gamers... and not the shareholders (and their own) pockets.. Cheers!

I grew up watching my dad play Diablo 2, and it makes me sad to see what has happened to the series.

most customers only care about brand (and this is really all that Microsoft are buying), and don't understand it's the people that make the games that matter. Blizzard is full of diversity hires and new people, there is no real talent there anymore.

Mods help the game and community grow but also help the modder learn more how games work. And come on, who doesn't think it's a little funny seeing Thomas The Tank Engine breathing fire in Skyrim.

I still remember the Christmas when they graciously gave every active account 350 RP, knowing full well that wasn't enough to buy a skin or anything back then. Felt nice to get, but it for sure got people to spend money on some RP in game. That's a level of clever I respect.
